Do you want a Condo or a House?

If you are not sure whether to buy a house or a condo, the following are suggested questions you may want to ask yourself. For some, a particular question may be more important than others! We hope these guide will help you make up your mind!

I like to live in a lot of space?
Houses usually have more living space and are generally cheaper per square meter, but condos do usually have nice gardens and beaches to walk on.

I like my privacy!
Houses are more private, unless you find yourself with neighbours you don’t like! Condo’s are private once you close your door to the world, but you are always sharing the building with others.

I want security!
Some house developments have excellent security, but condos are without doubt more secure.

I want to own a dog.
A house with a garden wins this argument hands down. Most condo buildings do not allow pets!

I want to rent my property out.
This is a difficult one to answer, but usually there are less hassles and slightly more opportunities to rent condos than houses. Some new condo developments off the beach, within the city, will also make excellent rental investments. Indeed, the new developments are offering guaranteed rental returns.

I want to legally own my property without any worries in the future.
This topic has been debated so much in Thailand! Condos win hands down.

I like to keep fit.
Most condos have fitness, tennis and swimming pools. They also encourage beach walking. Some houses have swimming pools and you could convert a room into a gym, but we think, for fitness, condos are better?

I want to make money from my investment by selling it in a few years time.
The last few years I would have said houses were the best investment, but given the current back ground, I have to give this to Condos (for reasons explained above).

I want to live close to the sea.
Houses prices are astronomical next to the sea. Condo prices are still (just) affordable to the average buyer.

I love home cooking.
Some condos have cooking restrictions and space restrictions can make cooking difficult. Your house could have a huge kitchen and space enough to let bad cooking smells away when you burn the chillis and garlic!

I enjoy gardening
Beware! It gets so hot even those who enjoy pottering around the garden are restricted by the heat. A house with garden rather than condo is obviously best.

I like a nice garden but don’t like gardening!
Actually finding a gardener is quite cheap and fairly easy. Most condo developments have well maintained gardens but you have to share it.

I enjoy swimming.
Only a few houses have swimming pools. Having your own private swimming pool can be burdensome. They have to be maintained and many new owners find themselves cleaning them more than using them. Most condo developments have excellent swimming facilities.

I like a homely atmosphere
Some people complain condos are sterile. Houses have more potential to adapt them to suit your personality.

I like the feeling of being on holiday
Living in a house out in the country next to other foreigners can make you forget sometimes you live in Thailand. Condos definitely have that holiday hotel feel.

Mosquitos and cockroaches!
Unfortunately this is something difficult to control in any environment, but not impossible. The higher you get in a condo building makes it more difficult for mosquitos to reach. Condos are easier to control (less awkward areas where roaches hide).

I want facilities such as snooker, sauna, restaurant etc.
Many foreigners like to put a pool table in their houses but for facilities condos are obviously best!
